Why we still include it
Type "AI girlfriend" into an app store and Replika is usually the first result people tap. You get proper iOS and Android apps, a 3D avatar, a mood tracker and a journal. Its goal is not to compete with an uncensored app like Candy AI. It wants to be a courteous companion you would not mind a friend spotting on your phone.
It does that job well. It is simply no longer the most capable option out there.
| Feature | Free plan | Pro (around $19.99 a month) |
|---|---|---|
| Texting | Unlimited basics | Smarter model plus relationship modes |
| Avatar and AR | Included | Included |
| Voice | Restricted | Fully available |
| Adult content | Off for newer accounts | Still heavily filtered |
| Memory | A few days | Longer, yet short of Nomi |
Fourteen days with Pro
Conversations feel kind and low-risk: it checks in on your mood and never pushes a scenario. By the end of week one it knew first names and a few habits, yet the small detail I mentioned on day two never came back, which Nomi handled easily. For images and customization, Candy AI is far ahead.
Content rules split the audience too. Anyone who signed up after early 2023 hits a firm NSFW wall. If that is the feature you came for, Replika is not your app. If you want a wellness-minded companion for everyday chat, few apps are easier to have on your home screen.
Is Pro worth buying?
Only if you already enjoy the free chat and specifically want voice and relationship modes. Upgrading will not turn it into Candy AI or Nomi; you are paying for polish on the same personality, not for a new product.
In short, the free plan earns Replika a place in any beginner's guide, and the paid plan is exactly why it misses our top seven.
A note on older reviews
My test used a newly created account, since that is what anyone installing it today will get. Reviews recorded back in 2022 describe a different app, so do not buy Pro based on them.
