Here are the listed monthly prices for the apps we track:
| App | Listed price per month | Free version |
|---|---|---|
| Sweetdream | $10.00 | Yes |
| Candy AI | $12.99 | Yes |
| Nomi | $15.99 | Yes |
| Replika | $19.99 | Yes |
Those are the figures on the pricing pages. Four things regularly pile on top.
1. A discount masquerading as the price
What you see at checkout is often a first-period deal, and the renewal is at list. Nothing illegal or concealed is going on. It's just that when you're comparing apps, each one is showing you the lowest number it will ever charge.
Defend yourself by comparing renewal prices only, and by putting the renewal date on your calendar the day you subscribe.
2. Credits stacked on the subscription
This is the biggest distance between what people expect and what they pay. In several apps the subscription covers conversation, while images and voice draw from a separate balance. A $12 plan paired with a heavy image habit can end up well above a $20 plan that bundles media.
So don't ask whether an app has image generation. They all do. Ask whether it's included in the plan or charged against a balance. Candy AI packs chat, images and voice into one subscription, and that, more than any single best-in-class feature, is why it leads our ranking.
3. The feature you came for is a tier higher
Voice calls, longer memory, faster replies and video are typical tier gates. The advertised price is the entry tier, and the thing that caught your eye often isn't in it.
Open the tier table, find the exact line you want, and price that tier. If an app doesn't publish a tier table at all, treat its advertised figure as a minimum, not a price.
4. Annual plans: cheaper, and riskier
Paying yearly typically saves 30 to 50 percent compared with monthly. It also locks you into a category where the product can change under you. Models get swapped and filters get retuned, so the character you loved in March may not be the one you have in September.
Go monthly first, and switch to annual only after a month you genuinely enjoyed. That order costs you least. We weigh the trade-off in monthly, annual or credits.
The truly cheapest route in
Sweetdream, at $10.00, has the lowest listed price of any app we test, and it also has the free version we rate highest. That makes it the cheapest honest way into the category, not just the cheapest number.
The costliest mistake isn't choosing the wrong app. It's paying for a full year of one you used for four days. Next to that, everything above is small change. The rest of the math lives in the hidden costs guide.
