"Uncensored" is the most oversold word in this niche. Every app has a floor: content that's illegal everywhere, plus rules its payment processors insist on. Plenty of apps that claim to be uncensored refuse, water things down, or lose the plot mid-scene. Our explainer on content filters covers how they work and why.
So we judged different things: does a character stay the same person deep into an adult scene, can you set limits that hold, what does media cost, and how does the company handle the most sensitive data you'll ever hand an app?
The apps we'd point you to

Results from our two-week test of each app.
| App | Pick it for | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Secret Desires | Uncensored roleplay that stays coherent | Web only; price hidden until you sign up; 2025 storage exposure |
| Candy AI | Chat, images and voice under one plan | Cluttered interface; fair-use cap on images |
| Camsoda AI | Building a character with firm limits | Web only; price hidden until you register |
| Joi | The cheapest way into uncensored chat | Brief replies, thin memory, few tools |
Nomi and Sweetdream permit adult content as well, but you'd choose them for other strengths: Nomi for memory, Sweetdream for its free tier. Left off the list: Replika blocks NSFW on accounts made after early 2023, and the characters on Kupid AI skew affectionate more than explicit.
A closer look at each
Secret Desires: top roleplay, with a privacy warning. In our test it was one of the few apps still making sense twenty messages into a scene, and its builder covers looks, voice, personality and limits, all of which held. The trouble: in November 2025 journalists found its cloud storage open to the public, exposing nearly two million images and videos, including explicit face-swaps of real women made with a feature the company later pulled. The storage was locked down once it was reported. If you use the app, upload no images and assume anything you generate could become public. More in AI companion data breaches.
Candy AI: the most complete package. It took our overall first place because chat, images of the same character, and voice all work under one plan, and its images kept the same person's face across a week. Heavy image use can run into a fair-use cap; see the real cost of AI image generation.
Camsoda AI: for people who want control. It offers a six-step builder, including topics the character must never bring up, and memory stored per character. The first few minutes are noisy, and it's web only.
Joi: when price decides. It has the lowest entry price in our ranking for uncensored chat and is also the thinnest product, with brief replies and little memory. Use it to sample the category cheaply, not to settle in.
Do this before typing anything explicit
- Use a throwaway email that doesn't include your name. If data ever leaks, this one step protects you most.
- Don't upload real photos of yourself or anyone else. Sexual images of real people made without consent are illegal in many places; see consent in NSFW AI chat.
- Find out what name shows on your card statement. Details in payment privacy.
- Plan for an age check, and take the least invasive option on offer; see age verification.
- Pay monthly at first. Adult features shift more than any others, pushed by payment processors and new laws.
Making limits stick
Adult roleplay works best when you set boundaries before the scene starts, not in the middle of it. Fill in the builder's limits field if there is one, put a line about pace and tone in the character profile, and fix drift with an out-of-character note instead of an argument. The technique is in roleplay prompts that work.
